Before reading this section, it is recommended to read the "Brief Intro to Numbering" section on the Trains page.

Korail Class 321000 (Formerly 5000 and 6000)

The Korail Class 321000 trains were introduced in three batches from 2006 to 2009. In total, 21 trains were built, numbered 321x01~321x21. All trains are eight cars long.

These trains share the "뱀눈이" (snake eyes) design as standard for all new Korail trains built at that time.

The first batch of trains were formed exclusively from existing third generation Class 5000 and Class 6000 trains for the then-known Jungang Line. In total, 14 trains were transferred, consisting of Class 5000 trains 5x86~5x92 and Class 6000 trains 6x01~6x07. All trains were built in 2006, converted in 2008 by shortening each train from ten cars to eight cars.

Initially, all trains kept their original numbers. The car numbering was as follows:

50XX/60XX-Tc (Leading car with cab, SIV, air compressor, secondary power device, battery)

52XX/62XX-M (Inverter, controller and converter)

53XX/63XX-M' (Pantograph, main transformer, controller, inverter)

58XX/68XX-T (Unpowered car)

59XX/69XX-T

56XX/66XX-M

57XX/67XX-M'

51XX/61XX-Tc

The trains recieved their current numbers when the Jungang Line was extended from Deokso to Paldang. Trains 5x86~5x92 were renumbered to 321x01~321x07 and trains 6x01~6x07 were renumbered to 321x08~321x14.

The car numbering was now as follows: (equipment remained the same)

3210XX-Tc

3211XX-M

3212XX-M'

3213XX-T

3214XX-T

The 28 cars left over from converting the first batch of trains were reorganized to form the second batch of trains in 2008. These trains were introduced with the current numbering setup, 321x15~321x18. Four additional cars were built for train 321x18 since there wasn't enough cars to form four complete trains.

The trains entered service with the Jungang Line's extension from Paldang to Guksu.

In the interior, these trains had their overhead LED display monitors replaced with LCD TVs above the doors.

The third batch of trains were built and introduced in 2009 by Hyundai Rotem, with the Jungang Line's extension from Guksu to Yongmun. Three trains were built, numbered 321x19~321x21. All trains were delivered with LCD display monitors in the interior, and also feature updated LED destination signs that are capable of scrolling.

All Class 321000 trains received automatic gangway refurbishments in 2011.

Starting on October 1, 2011, all Class 321000 trains were reduced from eight to six cars, removing an M car and a T car. These cars were redistributed to Class 351000 trains 351x34~351x40 and Class 311000 trains 311x83~311x87. However, following complaints from passengers concerning the shortened trains, all trains were reverted to eight cars by late 2013.

Since 2016, all trains are being retrofitted with LED headlights.

All second and third batch trains are currently being retrofitted with overhead LCD displays.

All trains are stored at the Yongmun Depot.

Korail Class 331000

The Korail Class 331000 trains were introduced in two batches from 2009 and 2012-2014. In total, 27 trains were built, numbered 331x01~331x27.

These trains share the "뱀눈이" (snake eyes) design as standard for all new Korail trains built at that time.

The first batch of trains were built in 2009 by Hyundai Rotem with the opening of the Gyeongui Line. All trains are eight cars long. All trains were delivered with the current numbering setup, and the car numbering is shared with the Class 321000 trains:

3310XX-Tc (Leading car with cab, SIV, air compressor, secondary power device, battery)

3311XX-M (Inverter, controller and converter)

3312XX-M' (Pantograph, main transformer, controller, inverter)

3313XX-T (Unpowered car)

3314XX-T

3315XX-M

3316XX-M'

3319XX-Tc

These trains feature smooth, aluminum bodies. In the interior, there are LCD display monitors above the doors, on the side of each car.

In total, 13 trains were built, numbered 331x01~331x13.

The second batch of trains were built by Hyundai Rotem from 2012-2014 to address the Gyeongui Line's extension to Yongsan, merging the two lines. 14 trains were built, numbered 331x14~331x27.

There are several differences with the first batch. The car body has reverted back to a ribbed, stainless steel finish. In the interior, there are overhead LCD display monitors.

All trains are eight cars long except trains 331x14~331x22, which are four cars long. These trains operate on the Seoul Station Branch and the Munsan-Imjingang shuttle service.

Trains 331x23~331x27 were originally six cars long, but they were extended to eight cars by 2014.

The four-car numbering is as follows:

3310XX-Tc (Leading car, SIV, air compressor, secondary power device, battery)

3312XX-M' (Pantograph, main transformer, controller, inverter)

3314XX-M'

3319XX-Tc

The first batch trains are currently having their side LCD monitors replaced with overhead LCD monitors, similarly to all new Korail trains being built at this time.

Bicycle cars were installed on trains 331x01~331x09 and 331x11.

Train 331x17 collided with a bus at a railway crossing on October 6, 2019. It was repaired and has since returned to service.

All trains are stored at the Munsan Depot.

Korail Class 381000

The Korail Class 381000 trains were built from 2016 to 2018 by Hyundai Rotem for the Donghae (translates to East Sea) Line, part of the Busan Metropolitan transit network.

The first generation was built in 2016, consisting of ten trains. They are numbered 381x01~381x10.

These trains follow the "삼눈이" (three eyes) design as the fourth generation Class 311000 trains, with single-arm pantographs, a third driving light, and CCTV cameras being the only major differences with the 뱀눈이 trains.

These trains wear a blue livery identical to the Class 371000 trains on the Gyeonggang Line.

All trains are four cars long. The car numbering is as follows:

3810XX-Tc (Leading car with cab, SIV, air compressor, secondary power device, battery)

3811XX-M' (Pantograph, main transformer, controller, inverter)

3812XX-M'

3819XX-Tc

Trains 381x01~381x04 were sent to the Munsan Depot in April 2019, due to space issues at the Donghae Line's Busan Depot. Until a larger depot is built at Deokha, these four trains will run on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line for the time being. They currently run on the Seoul Station Branch and the Munsan-Imjingang shuttle.

The second generation of these trains, introduced in 2018, were the first to implement the 주둥이 (snout face) design. A few features had not been implemented yet, including white-colored LED displays and the new propulsion system.
