Seoul Metro 8000-series
Before reading this section, it is recommended to read the "Brief Intro to Numbering" section on the Trains page.
First Generation
The first generation of Seoul Metro 8000-series trains were built from 1995 to 1996 by Daewoo Heavy Industries. 15 trains were built, numbered 8-01~8-15.

The exterior and interior design is the same as the first generation 7000-series trains.
​
The propulsion system is the same GEC-Alsthom VVVF-GTO unit found on the second batch 4000-series trains and 7000-series trains.

All trains are six cars long. The car numbering is as follows:

80XX-Tc (Leading car with cab, SIV, battery)
​
87XX-M (Air compressor, inverter, main converter, controller)
​
86XX-M' (Pantograph, main controller, inverter, peripheral pressure and exchange device)
​
84XX-T (Unpowered car)
​
82XX-M'
​
81XX-Tc

In 2000, the trains were repainted to the new SMRT livery. Like the first generation 7000-series trains, only the front ends were repainted. the sides of the car body does not feature a white stripe.

All trains were refurbished with fire-resistant interiors from 2004 to 2005. In 2010, it received LCD monitors to replace its interior LED units, along with seat cushions.
​
With all stations on Line 8 featuring screen doors, the side destination signs have been covered up.
​
All trains remain in service today.

Second Generation
The second generation was built from 1999 to 2000 by Hanjin Heavy Industries and KOROS. Originally, seven trains were built, numbered 8-16~8-22.

The design and specifications of these trains are identical to the second generation 7000-series trains. They are powered with the same Toshiba VVVF-IGBT units as well.

These trains received their fire-resistant interiors from 2004 to 2005. In 2010, the LCD screen refit was carried out.
​
These trains also have their side destination signs covered up.
​
A driving car and two-non driving cars in train 8-22 were used to replace the fire-damaged cars in train 7-52. Two more cars from that train were combined with train 8-21 to from train 7-63. The remaining driving car was repurposed into a mockup for the SR-series.

All 8000-series trains are stored at the Moran Depot.
Third Generation
A third generation will be built and introduced from 2022 to 2023, with the opening of the Byeollae Line extension of Line 8. The manufacturer will be Woojin. Nine trains will be built, numbered 8-21~8-29.
​
The propulsion system will be a Toshiba VVVF-IGBT (PMSM) unit.
