Incheon Line 1

IRTC Class 1000

Before reading this section, it is recommended to read the "Brief Intro to Numbering" section on the Trains page.

First Generation

The first generation of IRTC (Incheon Rapid Transit Corporation) Class 1000 trains were built from 1998 to 1999 by Daewoo Heavy Industries and Rotem. 25 trains were built, numbered 1x01~1x25.

These trains follow the same basic design specifications as all Seoul Metro and Korail trains. The only major difference is in the front end, a more streamlined design. Doors were electric-powered for the first time in all Korean subway trains. LED destination signs came as standard. In the interior, there are overhead LCD displays and cushioned seats.

These trains came equipped with ATO.

These trains are powered by Alstom VVVF-IGBT inverters. It was the first subway train in Korea to use a IGBT system.

All trains are eight cars long. The car numbering is as follows:

10XX-Tc (Leading car with cab, SIV, air compressor, secondary power device, battery)

19XX-M (Inverter, controller, converter)

18XX-M

15XX-T (Unpowered car)

14XX-T

13XX-M' (Pantograph, main transformer, controller, inverter)

12XX-M'

11XX-Tc

All trains were refurbished with fire-resistant interiors in 2005.

In 2009, trains 1x01~1x04, 1x19~1x22, 1x24, and 1x25 had their leading cars fitted with bicycle stands.

Trains 1x01~1x05, 1x12~1x16, 1x20, and 1x21 have been retrofitted with a Hitachi-based Woojin VVVF-IGBT propulsion system.

As all stations on Incheon Line 1 now feature screen doors, the side destination signs on all trains have been covered up.

Second Generation

The second generation of trains were built by Hyundai Rotem from 2007 to 2008 to address the northern and southern extensions of the line. Nine trains were built, numbered 1x26~1x34.

The front end design has been changed. It bears a passing resemblance to the "뱀눈이" (snake eyes) trains used by Korail.

All interior equipment was carried over from the first generation.

These trains are powered by a Mitsubishi VVVF-IGBT unit with a IPM from Hyundai Rotem. It is the same unit used on the second generation Seoul Metro 2000, 3000, and 9000-series trains.
