Line 9

Seoul Metro (Line 9 Corporation) 9000-series

Before reading this section, it is recommended to read the "Brief Intro to Numbering" section on the Trains page.

The 9000-series have been built in three batches (soon four) starting in 2008 by Hyundai Rotem. In total, 45 trains were built, numbered 9-01~9-45.

The overall body shape resembles the old wide-width chopper trains. Other than that, it is an all-new design. The front sign does not show the train's destination, rather its run number and whether it is an all-stop or express train.

In the interior, a single LCD TV can be found above each door. There are no gangway doors.

These trains are equipped with ATO.

The propulsion system is a Mitsubishi VVVF-IGBT unit with a Hyundai Rotem IPM. It is the same unit used in the second generation Seoul Metro 2000-series and 3000-series trains.

The first batch was built in 2008 and consisted of 24 trains, numbered 9-01~9-24. All trains were four cars long. The car numbering was as follows:

91XX-M' (Pantograph, main controller, inverter, peripheral pressure and exchange device)

94XX-M'

95XX-Tc

In 2018, more cars were built to extend these trains to six cars. The car numbering was changed:

90XX-Tc

91XX-M'

92XX-M (Inverter, converter and controller)

93XX-T (Unpowered car)

94XX-M'

95XX-Tc

The third batch consisted of eight trains, numbered 9-38~9-45. They were built in 2016. All cars were built with four cars, with the exception of train 9-45, which was built with six cars. The rest were extended to six cars by 2019.

These trains came equipped with LED headlights.

An additional fourth batch consisting of three six-car trains (numbered 9-46~9-48) were expected to be delivered at the end of 2019, but they have not been delivered yet.

All 9000-series trains are stored at the Gimpo Depot.
