AREX 1000-series

Before reading this section, it is recommended to read the "Brief Intro to Numbering" section on the Trains page.

The AREX 1000-series trains were introduced in two batches from 2006 to 2009 by Hyundai Rotem for the express service. In total, six trains were built, numbered 1-01~1-06. Trains 1-01~1-03 are first batch trains built in 2006, and trains 1-04~1-06 are second batch trains introduced in 2009 for the opening of Phase 2.

All trains are six cars long. The car numbering is as follows:

11XX-Tc (Leading car with cab, SIV, air compressor, battery)

12XX-M (Inverter, air compressor, converter, controller)

13XX-M' (Pantograph, transformer, inverter, controller)

14XX-T (Unpowered car)

17XX-M'

18XX-Tc

All trains are painted in a dark blue and gray livery, with three gold stripes.

The propulsion system is a Mitsubishi VVVF-IGBT unit with a IPM from Hyundai Rotem. The same system would be used later on the D000 trains on the Shinbundang Line.

AREX 2000-series

The 2000-series were built for the all stop service of the Airport Railroad. Three batches were built from 2005 to 2017. In total, 22 trains were built, numbered 2-01~2-22.

These trains follow a more traditional metro-style design. There are four sets of doors per car. In the interior, there are seats along the walls and no overhead shelves. LED and LCD screens are placed above the doors. These are open gangway trains, with no separating doors between cars. These trains can hold up to 282 sitting passengers and 630 standing.

These trains are further distinguished from the 1000-series trains by sporting a light blue and grey livery, with three white stripes.

The propulsion system remains the same.

All trains are six cars long. The numbering system is kept from the 1000-series.
