Incheon Line 1

Construction of Incheon's first subway line began in 1993. It was planned to run north to south through the city, to support the Gyeongin Line services of Seoul Metro Line 1 and provide service to the new urban areas in Gyeyang and Yeonsu. With this line, Incheon became the fourth South Korean city with a subway system, behind Seoul, Busan, and Daegu. It is marked a sky blue on maps.

The line opened on October 6, 1999, from Bakcheon to Dongmak.

A news broadcast of the line's opening. Unfortuantely, there are no English captions.

The line was extended north from Bakcheon to Gyulhyeon on December 7 of that same year.

Another northern extension opened on March 16, 2007, extending the line to Gyeyang on the Airport Railroad (AREX).

The current line was completed on June 1, 2009, when the line was extended south from Dongmak to International Buisness District.

All southbound trains terminate at International Business District. Most northbound trains terminate at Gyeyang, with some stopping at Bakcheon. At later hours, trains short-turn at various stations.

All stations feature screen doors.

The current line is 29.4 km (18.3 mi) long. The line runs entirely underground, with all track on the right-hand side.

There is a single train depot at Gyulhyeon.

Despite serving a different city, this line along with Incheon Line 2 is considered part of the overall Seoul Metro network. Thus, it runs on the standard fare system.

The line is planned to be extended one station south to Songdo Landmark City. This extension will open in December 2020.

A proposed extension to the north would bring the line into the developing Geomdam New City. No opening time for this extension has been announced yet.
