Bundang Line

The Bundang Line was built to serve the planned town of Bundang, in the southeastern part of Seoul. It is marked yellow on maps.

Construction started in 1990, and the line opened on September 1, 1994. Trains ran from Suseo to Ori.

Test runs on the line before its opening.

On September 3, 2003, the line was extended northward from Suseo to Seolleung.

In 2004, several in-fill stations opened. Imae opened on January 16, and Guryong opened on September 24. A temporary Bojeong Station platform opened on November 26.

The line was extended one station southward from Ori to Jukjeon on December 24, 2007.

On December 28, 2011, the line was extended further southward to Giheung. A new, underground Bojeong Station opened, replacing the old aboveground platform.

The line was extended both northward and southward in 2012. On October 6, the line was extended form Seolleung to Wangshimni, allowing for transfers to Line 5. On December 1, an extension from Giheung to Mangpo opened.

The line was extended futher south to Suwon on November 30, 2013, allowing for transfers to Line 1. An express service was also launched.

The current Bundang Line was completed on December 31, 2018, when the line was extended one station in the north from Wangshimni to Cheongnyangi, allowing for transfers to Line 1, the Gyeongchun Line, the Gyeongui-Jungang Line, and other regional rail services.

Most northbound trains terminate at Wangshimni, with some continuing on to Cheongnyangni. The last few northbound trains in the evening terminate at Jukjeon. Half of all southbound trains terminate at Suwon, while the other half stop at Jukjeon.

The express service stops at all stations between Wangshimni and Jukjeon, and then stops at Giheung, Mangpo, Suwon City Hall and Suwon. This service only operates during rush hours on weekdays.

The current line is 52.9 km (32.9 mi) long. All track is on the left-hand side.

There is a single depot at Bundang.

This line will be merged with the Suin Line when Phase 3 of that line opens. This will allow for through service to the Suin Line via Suwon, creating a long line from Cheongnyangni to Incheon tentatively called the Suin-Bundang Line.
