Seoul Metro 6000-series

Before reading this section, it is recommended to read the "Brief Intro to Numbering" section on the Trains page.

The Seoul Metro 6000-series was built from 1999 to 2000. 41 trains were built, numbered 6-01~6-41. Trains 6-01~6-14 were built by Hyundai Precision, and trains 6-15~6-41 were built by KOROS. All trains are eight cars long, and follow the same car numbering system as Line 5:

60XX-Tc (Leading car with cab, SIV, battery)

67XX-M (Air compressor, main converter, inverter, controller)

66XX-M' (Pantograph, main controller, inverter, peripheral pressure and exchange device)

65XX-T (Unpowered car)

64XX-T

63XX-M

These trains came with the current SMRT paint scheme, an orange stripe with an smaller, inlaid white stripe. The car body still features ribs, with two-piece side windows. The front window frame is black in color.

The interior design remained the same as all other SMRT trains, per standard.

The trains also came standard with TCMS and ATO.

These trains are equipped with a Mitsubishi VVVF-IGBT propulsion system.

Train 6-09 was originally delivered with a Hyundai Precision VVVF-IGBT system. It was the first Hyundai inverter developed completely in-house. However, due to rather poor performance compared to other trains, it was retrofitted with the Mitsubishi unit in 2005.

In 2010, all trains had their interior LED displays replaced with LCD monitors. Cushions were installed on the seat bottoms.

In 2012, trains 6-04~6-06 were temporarily transferred to Line 7 due to delays in introducing the SR-series. The trains returned to Line 6 service in December 2017. Trains 6-40 and 6-41 were subsequently repainted and transferred to Line 7, where they remain today.

With all stations on Line 6 now featuring screen doors, the side destination signs on all trains have been covered up.

Car 6633 was fitted with a Hyundai Rotem PMSM for testing starting in May 2019. After the tests were completed, the unit was removed. Future trains on Lines 5, 7 and 8 will use PMSM units.

All trains will be fitted with IPM units in the future. Currently, trains 6-06~6-15 have been fitted.

All trains remain in service today. They are stored at the Sinnae Depot. Trains 6-40 and 6-41 are stored at Line 7's Dobong Depot.
